Food availability influences angling vulnerability in muskellunge

چکیده

Abstract Reduced food availability increases the capture of several fish species, although mechanisms responsible for how resources result in increased are undefined. Our objective was to quantify mechanism by which might influence angling vulnerability muskellunge ( Esox masquinongy ). We assessed rates field under different levels, quantified behaviors that were either fed or deprived, and determined if appetite‐related hormones leptin ghrelin affected behavior. Catch fasted more than twice as high those muskellunge. However, deprivation hormonal treatments did not laboratory behavior, suggested catch food‐deprived because receptive lures. Furthermore, an ecosystem approach should be used consider forage a component management goals.

Influences of Food Availability and Predation on Survival of Kittiwakes

Life history theory predicts a trade-off between current reproduction and survival to maximize fitness. In long-lived seabirds, one might expect adults not to jeopardize survival by excessive reproductive investment when environmental conditions for breeding are adverse. Some environmental factors have reduced the fecundity of Blacklegged Kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla) breeding in Shetland, UK, ...

The influence of selection for vulnerability to angling on foraging ecology in largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides.

Several traits related to foraging behaviour were assessed in young-of-the-year produced from largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides that had been exposed to four generations of artificial selection for vulnerability to angling. As recreational angling may target foraging ability, this study tested the hypothesis that selection for vulnerability to angling would affect behaviours associated with...

Food availability differentially influences young males' and females' cognitive processes in accordance with sexual selection theory.

Sexual selection theory predicts that additional resources will have a greater impact on males' compared with females' reproductive success. Consequently, we expected that strong cues signalling increased resource availability should augment cognitive functioning associated with long-term maximization of reproductive outcomes (inhibition, working memory) in human males. In human females, who ca...

Does boldness explain vulnerability to angling in Eurasian perch Perca fluviatilis?

Consistent individual differences (CIDs) in behavior are of interest to both basic and applied research, because any selection acting on them could induce evolution of animal behavior. It has been suggested that CIDs in the behavior of fish might explain individual differences in vulnerability to fishing. If so, fishing could impose selection on fish behavior. In this study, we assessed boldnes...

Stochastic variation in food availability influences weight and age at maturity.

Variation in mean food availability, and in the variance around the mean, affects the growth rate during development. Previous theoretical work on the influence of environmental quality or growth rates on the phenotypic traits age and size at maturation assumed that there is no variation in growth rate or food availability within a generation. We develop a stochastic dynamic programming (SDP) m...
